Inspirational quotes for this season...

Eventing is 99% perspiration, 1% luck!

No matter how much you try, you won't succeed unless you have a horse that tries too :)

Everything happens for a reason :)

And my personal favourite, If in doubt, kick! (used to be close eyes as well, but have graduated from that :p)

"Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements – the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life – weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today." – Lawrence M. Krauss

hmm, i don't know about that, i read that one as a small child and took it very much to heart, and i'm sure it contributed to my 'monkey on a stick' halfway up horse's neck jumping position... maybe i interpreted it as 'throw yourself half over and the pony will catch you up. hopefully...' ;) ;)

still chuckling over the utterly brilliant "dazzle don't dip", must admit!

I haven't taken it to heart... however, I shall be over cautious on the jumping position ;)

"give it a kick" - OH quoting well known northern show rider

"don't know what you all stress about so much, it is only riding a horse in circles" - OH

and a special one from me for 2011

"remember how much diesel it cost to get to this show/event/etc" (to inspire one to try and not ride like a muppet, apologies to muppets who are quite sweet creatures).

I love this :)

I like my Ludger Beerbaum one, "Success is the sum of small decisions."

And for a modern take on Desideratia, "Wear Suncreen" http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-schmich-sunscreen-column,0,4054576.column The last bit is especially pertinent to internet forums. ;)

And, in everything, Calm. Forward. Straight. (A few of you who know me are laughing about that last bit but you know what I mean.:D )

Dr Seuss has quite a few good horse related things to say, by the way.

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple."
“I meant what I said and I said what I meant.” (To horses and people.)
“If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good”
“Just tell yourself, Duckie, you're really quite lucky!” (To anyone lucky enough to be riding a horse - perspective is everything!)

I found the source for the TarrSteps/Ma Baydale famous quote yesterday, quite by accident:

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't
matter and those who matter don't mind.
--Dr. Seuss

I love that one even more now, as the "be who you are and say what you feel" part is so important. I had a boyfriend once who said he was the "undiscovered fraud" in his job, but was just getting away with it daily, by the seat of the pants through winging it, bluffing, whatever. I can't do that (needless to say that relationship didn't last ;)).

I think with the horses you need to be honest with them, in your expectations of them, making everything black and white and being fair. Ditto with yourself, fair enough if you may have to project a certain persona if you're doing it professionally, but for an amateur just be who you are and don't worry about all the others around you - the important ones know who and what you are, the others don't even merit any head space.:D

He will not appreciate this...but from my jumping instructor he went round Blair and love 2 bits....

"If you think you are wrong, sit tight and go with the stride you see"

Not very horsey but I like Churchill quotes:

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts"

and:

"Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential"

One of my old instructors used to say imagine your boobs as car headlights, you want them on full beam so now whenever Im coming down the centre line I always think 'dont dip, dazzle!!'

It makes me smile and relax if anything!

This reminds me of Geoff Billington - "You want your horsde to bounce under you like a rubber ball, imagine Jordan doing her dressage, bounce, bounce, bounce.

My instructor thinks it's hilarious coz I have the same size chesticles as Jordan and she can't help herself shouting "think Jordan" :D:D:D
