When it comes to dressing myself and knowing what looks good I am rubbish! :o

I'm going to be investing in a whole new show gear wardrobe, but don't even know where to start! Quite frankly there are too many jacket/ stock/ tie/ coloured browbands/ hat etc combinations and the range there is to chose from is super confusing. So can you lovely, well dressed HHO'ers inspire me with what you wear?

Particuly anyone who does riding horse classes and showjumping!

Riding horse classes mean you need (for affiliated)
navy beagler or strap hat
hair net
shirt with well fitting collar
tweed jacket (greeny colours are most popular)
tie - something that will stand out but not too bright
tie pin to hold your tie in place
brown or mustardy colour gloves

cream/beige breeches
Long leather boots
Spurs

brown or natural cane

No button holes, scrunchies etc required

Look at the photographers websites for the winners o the riding horse classes to gt a better idea

Riding horses are easily recognised as they have coloured browbands and riders wear tweed.
Hunters and cobs are plain browbands and tweed
Hacks are coloured browbands and navy jackets

Your best bet is to go somewhere like Mrs Candy and let her dress you from head to toe as she has all the correct gear!

Listen to FMM!

This is my Veteran Riding Horse

And for showjumping

I only do local stuff, but this is me and my pony :) Qualifying for Chantrey Championship, first time I'm qualifyed for anything :D

Becasue I only do local the things I wear are not quite right, but if pony gets beeter at behaving at parties I may invest in the right clothing :)

Follow FMM's advice - and look at Nicola's picture.

If you are investing money in it, you might as well get it right first time!

No both were brown on the coloured. The saddle is a bit lighter though. He isn't mine I was just riding him for them as his normal rider couldn't make the show.
The last photo is an Ox blood John whitaker saddle with a Ox Blood / Brown Kate Negus Bridle. x

FMM is certainly the expert here. Get yourself a really nice top quality jacket though - it makes all the difference if it actually fits!

Trawl through the photographers like Fred the Cat, ES Photography and Equinational - they take photos at all the top showing classes and if those guys don't know what they are talking about then no one does! Horse Gossip forum has top quality stuff for sale but be in NO rush as there are many different colours and designs!

Oh and there is a MASSIVE difference between what is good in the show ring and what is good in the jumping ring - do not get confused!

I dont know about showing but for jumping animo, equiport and deniro do nice quality stuff that wears really well. I am worried as scope is soon and I need new show jods as I shrunk mine :/ Horse also needs boots that fit and ive seen a showjumping jacket I like. Shame I have no money :P

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm planning on taking my ex racehorse to a ror county show next year and have no idea what to wear. Shes a bay mare.

And this is how we turn out for dressage, please note we've both changed a lot since this picture was taken!

Not ideal, we just do local unaff stuff. If I were made of money he would be in a showing saddle, I would have a fixed peak, show cane, tie instead of stock and show jacket that fitted a bit better (this was for showing hunter classes).

Hope they help :)

In terms of cost, you are better off buying showing gear and using it for jumping rather than the other way around! Nicola C is beautifully turned out in her photos. Definitely NO stocks for showing unless you are in an evening performance or championship and wearing a navy jacket.

Different dress rules for everything - that's the trouble!
