instant calmers

i tried them...really didn't work. best one i've found is horse first relaxme, but it has to be fed over a long period...the horse i needed a calmer for ended up going much better once he was turned out more and i made sure he had a molasses free diet. sugar drove him nuts - like kids i suppose!!!

Do you need it for a specific event e.g loading, first show ?? If so then I would reccomend Oxy shots - worked really well on my TB.

If it's for general everyday use I would follow the advice of piglet and cut out molasses. I have doen the saem and can't beleive the difference it made. Also if you feel that you would have to feed a calmer everyday it will push your feed bill up quite a bit !

Equine America So-Kalm paste, fantastic stuff!

How much Sedalin did you give her? I had to give more than the suggested dose to get any reaction from my horse.

I havent tried sedaline with her as it was ineffective on the yob (who has now found another mommy). Its just for freezemarking purposes and I was lookin at the BC ones because they said non drowsy and natural ingredients. I just wanted to take the edge off the process for her as she can be a little stressy sometimes and i find freezemarking to be a little stressful for nearly every one i have come across.

perhaps i should take some! x

thanks for all your suggestions.

We get ours from the local tack shop or feed merchants, you just give a teaspoon a day (although at first we were a bit generous with that & gave him a bit more), if we want our lad quiet for a day we give him a dose the day before in his tea & a second dose that morning in his breakfast.
