Ive decided to put my young mare on instant linseed & total eclipse to see if it helps with her stamina etc rather than the course mixes as they have sent her off her trolley slighty.

Problem is shes not to fond of eating it. I added it to her feed as advised but she refused to eat it but then I added it to her feed before soaking it and she wolfed it down. Last night I gave her the same feed (all soaked at the same time) and she refused point blank to eat it.

So has anyone else had any problems feeding instant linsed/total eclipse?

Are you feeding both linseed and total eclipse - I just wondered as they are both linseed so no need to feed both. Also It might be the seaweed in total eclipse that she is not wanting. Mine were not overly fond of Total Eclipse but love linseed and brewers yeast - although it took a couple of days to get them to accept the brewers yeast.

yes Im feeding both as recommended as she needs the extra linseed. I used to feed her seaweed and she didnt have a problem with it but it may well be the taste of it with all the other bits n pieces in it.
Ill have to see how she goes and may have to revert to trial and error with her.
thanks bosworth

I would leave off the Total Eclipse - try just the straight linseed - she can have loads of that - then try introducing straight brewers yeast - if then when you introduce the Total eclipse she doesn't like it then it would be the seaweed.

Did Simple Systems recommend both as it seems rather odd to use two linseed products. it will be far cheaper for you to feed Linseed and brewers yeast as seperates - and add seaweed if you need it than to buy the Toal Eclipse as it is so expensive.

They also recommened I fed total eclipse and instant linseed, I too think its better to just feed the linseed and brewers yeast, as i beive the total eclipse is only linseed, brewers yeast and seaweed anyway.

In winter I feed total eclipse with a little extra linseed for Cairo's joints and Chancer's show coat.

In summer I feed a large amount of linseed - for showing and a large amount of brewers yeast for preventing sweet itch, so don't bother with the total eclipse as they also have black sunflower seeds for their coat and feet which is what the seaweed is for.

Never had a problem with them eating any of the SS products - but mine are not fussy eaters and day they stop eating their grub is the day the I panic and call the vet.

i think i may have to try that. Ive already got her feed soaking for tonight so if she wont eat it then ill miss the TE out for tomorrow. My friend uses TE so they may buy it off me so I wont have wasted £35

have you notice a huge difference whilst feeding the brewers yeast to your sweet itch sufferers? Just that mine is really bothered by flies and ends up having her sweet itch hoody rug on that she hates!
Unfortunately mine is a really picky eater but I have managed to get her eating the soaked feeds which is a huge step forward - shes like me - loves her sugary foods!

Yes - since feeding brewers yeast and linseed my boys are far less itchy - both help, but the brewers yeast really does work as I ran out and took a week to get more - both were itching in the stable far more than they did when on the stuff.

My boys are fairly large - 15 hand cob and 16.3 clydie so get 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast twice a day and one mug of linseed - which goes up to three for Chancer when he is getting into show condition. This amount is split between two feeds. Mine have their feeds wet - the lucie stalks and green golds does not need soaking, but they prefer it damp.

thanks for that. She currently on blue bag grass nuts and luci cobs plus the instant linseed and total eclipse all soaked - when she eats it. Will definitely have to try not feeding the Total Eclipse and see how we get on with the linseed only then introduce the brewers yeast

If you really want to try upping the energy, then you could try the red bag grass nuts - they have more like oats energy as they are first spring grass cut, so go carefully.

I did try them on my little cob, but not much difference - think he is the sort that is so laid back, that feed is not the answer, as he didn't even perk up on an energy booster paste I tried to get more in hand spark when showing.

I feed the green gold and lucie stalks - so they get a huge chaff based meal, maybe this would work as there is more to spread the taste she does not like.

You could try some of their beet or speedibeet as a dampner and some carrots to help make it more tasty.
