instructor rode my horse

She looks like a lovely horse but eek, i have to say your instructors hands look a bit hard- in the flatwork photo the bit is coming right out of the side of the horses mouth.

I wasn't there when she rode but she did say she has tried her in a different bit, I did look at it myself but can't even work out what bit it is. I'll have to ask her.

Granted, the bit may be too big but even so in the flatwork photo it looks like her hands are pulling the bit out to the side. Be very careful your horse doesnt get a sore mouth and bruised bars from the bit either being too big and/or her hands.

ill be the only person to say they both look good! horse looks to be moving forward nicely and jumping nicely. you can say a thousand things about a photo but i bet if you were watching it it would be different.

lovely horse :) bet you cant wait to get on!

PS and about the ragwort, why isit a problem? thats obviously not used for grazing and i only keep on top of the fields anyway but maybe im wrong?

I'm not certain but I'm sure there's some sort of legal DEFRA thing about getting rid of ALL ragwort. As long as you have some on your land, then you will always be pulling it out of your fields. Best to get rid of ALL of it if you can.

True...and a flipping big fine too! Shame they dont do it to the councils who allow it to rampage along A roads and M/ways.

OP, nice horse! I would say that the bit is a cheltenham gag - it has rope or leather running through the rings to act as a lever on the poll. Popular on the hunting and XC fields and a super bit in the right hands.
Wouldnt say your instructor was hard in the hand, just rather fixed which is a fauly of mine too, and Ive never had a horse with a bruised mouth, even the breakers.

Thank you all for your comments, just to confirm it is not ragwort, it does look similar in the pictures from a distance though. She is a lovely mare, but after much thought and tears I have decided that she is not the right horse for me. I have tried very hard for us to become a good team but we are just not suited. So disappointed, never thought I would own such a beautiful horse but I owe it to us both to let her go.

Are you serious??

yes i am serious. my fields are clear of ragwort and if i had the time to sit there and get rid of ALL the ragwort on the yard that the horses cant reach, then i would. but im busy and the ragwort is out of their reach. ive been at the yard for 10 years and never had a problem so its will be kept that way until the yard owner says otherwise. my horses are happy and healthy. thats all that needs to be said :)

ETA:- the walkways to the school ect hasnt got that much ragwort in, but even if it had, its so far away from the horses i wouldnt be worried.

I could be wrong but I thought it pollinates and spreads in the wind which is why its so hard to keep on top of it if a neighbouring field has it. It might be an idea to pull up all of the ragwort on your yard before it pollinates to prevent it from spreading more - might make your life easier with having to pull it up from your fields in future years??

Lovely mare, as OP has confirmed that the plant is not ragwort and her post was not titled ' admire my pics of ragwort'!
I imagine that she gets a bit strong and on the forehand from the pics so the instructor has tried a cheltenham gag to stop her getting so strong and heavy in front ( sorry OP if this is not the case). I don;t think the instructor looks heavy handed in the jump pic.
The flat pic is not the most flattering but its only a moment in time.
