Does anybody use an instructor's website as part of making the decision making process to decide whether to train with them?

Happy hackers - what would attract you to try a few sessions in order to become a happier hacker?

If you are trying to pluck up the courage to dip a toe in competition (of any sort), what would tempt you?

What kind of content would encourage you to book sessions if you felt that you needed more confidence handling and riding your horse?

What would be an absolute turn-off?

I have been looking out, and very few freelance instructors seem to have their own websites - just wondered what people would like to see..

This could be interesting, I've started putting together a website and haven't found many others to compare mine to or get ideas from and these are the sorts of things I've been considering too.

i think for me, some kind of feedback from clients would be useful. I usually have lessons with instructors based on word of mouth - a few good references from your clients would go along way for me. maybe videos of you riding would help? I know you don't necessarily have to be a good rider to be a good instructor but if you've got some nice footage at shows or at home it would be interesting as a potential client to watch.

Also, a nice simple layout on a website is always a bonus. As is correct spelling and punctuation - i know i'm not one to throw stones at glass houses, but one of my BIGGEST bugbears is poor spelling and grammar on websites..... You're advertising yourself and your business, so should take the time to spellcheck! I took a look at the livery yard i rent's new website a while ago and was appalled at the spelling.... i emailed the owners about it, who still haven't change anything!

hope that helps :)

Thanks alj7, that helps me at least :). Confirms the sort of thing that I'm thinking all ready, I'm hoping to get some professional photos of me riding done once the weather picks up and the scenery looks better - can't see the point of having (hopefully) really good pictures done when it looks bloomin' miserable and muddy and wet, reminding everyone why we hate winter!
