How important is it to you to find an instructor who has their BHS exams?
And would you be put off having a lesson with someone who doesn't have them?

At the moment I do a small amount of teaching but would like to do a lot more. I don't have my bhs exams, do you think I would find it a lot easier to do more teaching if I had qualifications?

Thanks

I have my BHS I and II and also NVQ 1, 2 & 3 which is the equivelent of BHS.
I was asking my instructor about this, as I loved teaching when I worked on the yard, but I thought because I don't have my BHSPT (Prelimary Teaching) cert, I didn't think I could teach outside of the riding school. She seemed to think you can teach as long as you have your stage II or NVQ 3?
Any thoughts?

You dont have to pass any exams to teach, but it is best to get them IMO.

Unless you are a top rider with a record as long as your arm, being to say you hold XX cert gives new clients a very good idea of what level you are at without talking them to sleep

I know somebody who teaches who is EXCELLENT and doesn't have BHS exams, on the other hand I know some with BHS exams who aren't so good! However I would always personally look through the BHS (or ABRS) as it does give you an easy guideline.
