Quick question - how generous are they for foot sizing? I'm toying with the idea of asking Father Christmas for a pair but not sure whether to go up half a size to allow for thick socks.

Thanks!

Also, how much does the leg stretch? I'm kind of between the regular and full so not sure which would be best and how much do they drop? My black leather boots have dropped loads so are too short but were 49cm originally where as the ariats are 48cm so don't want to end uo with them looking ridiclous.

And if anyone knows of any tack shops in South Wales that stocks them please say as otherwise I'll have to gamble on mail order!

Cheers :)

I wen't up a 1/2 size I hunt so needed 2 pairs of sox I had mine for a season and then they split slightly so I just sent them back and they sent me a new pair they were second to none with excellent customer service i'm going to get me a pair of Chocolate ones as well .

I bought my normal size and they are good with thick socks. When I tried them on, I could just about do up the regular width calf so I bought the full size ones and they are doing well so far. I'm normally a regular width so spent an hour moaning that my calves must now be too fat. I've only been wearing them for about 3 months so they're not dropping yet :)

My non insulated ones have dropped but my winter ones haven't, I also find that the winter ones are not as stretchy as the uninsultated ones, maybe to do with the insulation in them??? Lovely boots though, the chocolate ones are fab!!!!!
I'm too out of touch re stockists in S Wales, moved away in 2003 ;), have a look at the Ariat shop?

I actually went down a half size, as I seem to have to do for most long boots. I take a size 6 in regular shoes/boots but my Bromonts are 5.5. Fab boots - thoroughly recommend them! They do give quite a bit but mine certainly haven't gone at all "baggy".

I always find Ariat boot generous in the foot. All my Ariat boots are 7.5 and I'm an 8 in any other make.
I love my Bromonts, keep my feet toasty out hunting, but the calves come up very narrow. I have pretty scrawny calves in relation to the rest of me and I needed the fuller size!

I had to go down half a size in the insulated ones. I'm usually a 6 but have the 5.5's and there would be plenty of room for 2 pairs of socks too. Not sure if you'd need the extra socks though in the insulated ones.:D They are quite long in the leg for me so I bought heel raisers to wear until they drop. You can order them in different heights. I got the medium ones.

Carmaandflin - i didnt know you could order them in different heights? i have ordered the chocolate ones for father xmas to bring however i am planning on using heal risers with mine as i am a bit vertically challenged! looking forward to getting them though!

The insulated ones come in one length only kez1001, the "normal" bromonts come in different lengths.

All useful information, thanks guys.

Kirstyhen am I right in saying you're really tall and these aren't too short on you?

I am indeed tall, 6ft to be precise :D I wear Ariat close contact chaps in ST which is 19 inches long I think they are the only things I can find long enough that I like the look of but aren't too expensive.
The Bromonts are short on me, but not so they look awful. Don't think I have any pictures of me in them though. Pony did his check ligament not long after I got them

Thanks KH, that's really helpful... just been digging further and see some places do the Bromont Tall, for some reason thought there was only one leg length available, I'm guessing they're the ones you've got? Strangely though no one online that I can find stock both the "standard" length and the "tall", hmmm...

I lied, I'm wearing them in this pic

I would prefer them higher, but warm toes made me nor care too much!

By pure fluke I was fitted by an Ariat technician (for want of a better word) who happened to be training in the saddlers that day & was told by him that they recommend half a size smaller on the foot size and a width size smaller in the calf because of the way they give. Left to my own devices, I would have ended up with completely the wrong size. His advice has been spot on, they fit perfectly even with thick socks. I struggled slightly the first couple of times to do the zip up but since then the zip goes up fine. And most important of all, they work! Toasty feet for the first winter ever & you can just hose mud off if you need to, bliss!!

I am a size 9, but I fit very nicely into the 8.5s....good job as they don't do a 9!

I am tall, a smidge under 5ft11, and I don't find them too short...kirsthen must have freakishly long floor to knee measurements as mine are rather long too ;) :p

Me in mine....

I have got long black socks on underneath. These are wide and nearly 3 years old. They are too wide for me, hence they look a bit baggy. My brown ones are regular and far smarter.

Oooh, found this (don't laugh) - close up - as you can see the colour has faded quite a bit, which is a shame as they are kept in a dark room and only worn when I ride

I've never found I've needed thick socks with them so far (competed in them for the last 2 / 3 years). I just bought my usual size, and the average width. I didnt find mine dropped at all much - which is a bit annoying as they're a bit too long for me, for jumping I just don't do the zip all the way up so it doesn't dig in. Love mine, their waterproofness is so practical!

Sizes come up about right i would say.. im usually a 6.5 in normal shoes and went for 7's for room with socks.. but they are brill as they are so supportive that they dont feel too big with thin socks either..

thats made me happy that everyone has said that the calves come up small as mine are regular :p

And mine have definatley dropped.. they canned like a b**** at the back of my knees when i first got them, but are perfect now. I would say they've dropped about 1.5cms :)

The foot size comes up either about right or generous. If you are inbetween on calf but can get the regular up go for regular- even on chaps Ariat recommend you fit them as tight as possible to get maximum wear out of them - they suggest the first few times you may need two people to zip up while wearer is stood upright. The calf on them is not at all generous, if memory serves correct its about 15inches but dont quote me

They only have on height size, in both insulated and non. They are called Bromont tall as there is a short boot called Bromont, and these are obviously a tall boot!! they are labelled"medium" height, and that is it!

For the "larger" calf that doesnt fit the full calf either a good option is the Grassmere (althouh no good for competing) as they do a full calf and are insulated, or the short Bancroft insulated boot

(Aunt has a tack shop so have a little bit of knowledge!!)

Ah, that makes total sense!

Thanks for posting the pics KH and weezy, much appreciate it. They look a good length on you both.

Wide is 39cm and standard is 37cm for whoever it was that asked. Which gives me a dilemma as my black cavallo long boots are 39cm calf and have dropped dreadfully because they're too wide but my Tredstep chaps are 15" which is 38cm and they fit perfectly so I'm between sizes hence my questions about whether they stretch, I don't want to buy the wide calf and find they start sagging after a couple of months!

In that case I'd say get the regular calf - as someone else said you really need to get them as tight as possible. Provided that you can actually do up the zip, they will give sufficiently to be a perfect fit.
