I am writing a college paper which will be a handbook on care and management for insulin resistant and equine metabolic syndrome horses. One of the sections I'm trying to research is breeding.
So my question is has anyone had any experience breeding an insulin resistant/EMS mare or had a horse diagnosed with it while pregnant? Or do you know of any good articles/books about the subject.

Thank you.

there is a strong link with this in PRE'S {spanish) horses and for that reason there is a lot of information on American web sites.( most of North American equines originate from the PREs brought over during the invasion by the conquistadors)
A good supliment that i am importing for a horse that i have with this problem is HEIRO , the web site of the product is very informative and helps dispell a lot of rubbish, especially with the use of certain human drugs etc it also has good references
Hope that helps

Go on over to the Chronicle Of The Horse forums and look up soy. I have a mare which is soya intolerant as are her daughters but not the colts. Not going into all the details as it's very long winded. But suffice to say, be removing all soya from the diet I have no issues with my horses and they can be like normal horses. Had I stayed on a balancer like all feed companies suggested I would have horses living in a dry lot, soaking hay, expensive vet treatments and in short, miserable horses and a miserable owner.
