Following on from a previous thread (thank you for your help everyone) my pony may have insulin resistence. I am awaiting the results today/tomorrow.

In the meantime my vet asked me to turn the pony out into a field with his laminitic friend which has no grass and is not even the size of half a tennis court. My pony is slightly overweight (263 kgs on measuring tape for a chunky 11.2hh 9 year old Dartmoor). He is excerised 5 times per week - currently lightly as had a hock injury a week and a half ago.

However, even though I haven't had the weigh tape on since moving fields, he is very bloated on on an evening and I am concerned that he is not getting enough excerise in such a small area.

The last field was a good size, very grazed down and I had some concerns that it may be a bit stressed, but plenty of space and he shared it with a herd of 5 other geldings, 3 of which are younger than him and he likes to play with them alot.

What I am wondering is how those of you with insulin resistence/lami prone horses manage turnout?

If he is insulin resistant does he have to stay in this tiny paddock for the rest of his life?

Many thanks
