Just looking for some recommendations as to:

(i) how much you would expect to pay to insure an £8000 to £10000 horse for third party, theft and vets fees?; AND

(ii) who do you think offers best value for money (not necessarily cheapest?!).

I know E&L are out for 100,000 reasons

NFU only cover half MRI so that would be a no no.

Anyone had any experience of EIS?

Any other suggestions gratefully received! Fanks!

There are LOADS of insurers out there! The cost will depend a lot on what you are doing with you horse so therefore what category insurance wise it'll fall in to - ie just a pleasure/hacking horse or a competition horse. Basically most insurers calculate on a % rate of the sum insured. Some rate against the precise sum insured where as other will do it on a value rang (ie £1000 to £3000 value would be rated the same).

As a basic idea your sum insured for basic cover (generally death, theft and straying, liability) could range between say £3.00% and £6.00% depending on class of use. Then add your vets fees at say bettwn £100 to £200(ish) and go on from there.

Try the likes of Kerry Andrews (essentially an insurance broker), petplan, AIMS, insuremyhorse, South Essex Insurance, Lloyd and Whyte (again a broker, they use Towergate and I think KBIS). Also BRIT insurance. God there are so many!!!!
