So, I've decided to loan a horse, and am trying to sort out insurance for her. This is my first step into any sort of horse ownership, and I don't have a clue!

I understand I should avoid E&L, waiting for NFU to call me back, and I've had some decent quotes from AmTrust. The main problem is that I have no idea how much vets fees are for horses.

Because she's 14.2 I can get either Horse or Pony insurance. Pony insurance is cheaper, but limits the claim for vets fees to £2000 p/a, while for horses it's £5000. I'm inclined to go for more cover... but then there's the excess. I can pay £135 fixed excess for the pony cover, or £250 or 17% excess (whichever is greater) for the horse cover (fixed excess for horse is too expensive).

Aaargh, head hurts! She's a hardy little cob with no previous health problems, I just have no idea of how much I might need to pay out if she did have problems! Would appreciate any help anyone could offer!

I would go with NFU when they ring you back... I think its about £140 excess and £5,000 vets fees. They have been brilliant with my horses and their injuries.
