I've just had my horse insurance renewal through from NFU. I've had the same horse insured with them for over 10 years without making any claims, but in the last year I've had 2 claims for non-related incidents. One was a cough and the other a bad tooth which has now been removed. Both incidents had complications and cost about £3k each. Well my premium has now been 'loaded' and has basically doubled to over £700 (£500+ being for vets bills cover). I've asked them to go back to the underwriters as this seems unreasonable given that if they'd been in different policy years it probably wouldn't have been an issue. The alternative is I either get a veteran policy (he's 17) and just get cover for accidental injury, or change to a different insurer but I'm not sure if this would be worse given the claims history. Any ideas / advice please?
