Insurance and parvo

So if you got a puppy at 8 weeks and had his first vaccine done, but then at 10 weeks he caught Parvo, would insurance cover you?

They say they dont cover for things you arent vaccinated against, but if you were half way through a course, would that be okay to cover you?

Are you asking a theoretical question or has that happened to you and your dog ? If the former I have no idea and if the latter I would phone your insurance company and ask them

Breeders often have a months free insurance that comes with the pup? But best to ask.

It’s very unlikely to happen, there are lots of things to worry about when getting a puppy but I wouldn’t add that one to the list ! What breed are you getting ?

When my dog was in the vets in October for V&D she was tested for Parvo as there were young dogs in there who had it, despite having been vaccinated, so it's not actually that unlikely, best to check with insurance company.

Make sure pup comes with 4/5 week breeder cover in place, or see if your vet issues an instant 4 week cover on first examination, to cover the exclusion period before your chosen policy kicks in (taking Petplan as an example, they don't cover illness which starts in the first 14 days).

Providing your puppy comes with it’s months insurance then it shouldn’t be an issue.

Provided you keep your puppy at home, as advised by the vet until the course of vaccines is finished ,itis highly unlikely that he willc contract Parvo or indeed,anything else..

4 weeks free Petplan insurance issued by vet after first (or any) examination up to a year old (off the top of my head) gives £4000 instant cover for illness or injury as soon as you activate it as long as it's within 24 hrs of issue. After 24 hrs it's only £2000 and only injury for the first 14 days.

They have to have seen the vet (not a vet nurse), most people get it at first vaccination.

As has been said a reputable breeder will have insurance for you. I don’t know how it works but even though my latest pup was 16 weeks old I still got the free KC cover.

I got 4 weeks free insurance with Agria when I changed the micro chip details.

Spoke to breeder and he will have the 5 weeks kc insurance yay
