Insurance, anyone not bother?

I don't understand why the insurance companies insist on putting horses through these operations with low success rates, surely it just costs more money in the end?? I'd have thought they'd not want to spend money on something that is unlikely to work.

My cynical view is that they hope the owner will decide not to put horse through the surgery and pts at home, so they can say BEVA guidelines weren't followed and so not pay out.
Our dogs aren't insured either but we have 3rd party through Dogs Trust.

I'm as BHS Gold member for liability cover and have a credit card with a huge limit for everything else. I choose the treatment I want at the time I want with the vet I want and it cost me a hell of a lot loss than insurance for a 21 year old hacking horse.
