Had vet out last week and there is a possibility horse may have ulcers. The practice does not have a 3 metre endoscope but is happy to refer to practice 1.5 hours away.

Vet back out today to take bloods and do lameness work up to check DJD and compare bloods from Nov last year after treatment for suspected (viral) infection.

Last year horse was boxed and travelled to the local vets (15 mins away) 4 times for treatment for DJD of hocks and was increasingly difficult to load each time and gets stressed when travelling.

Vet thinks due to the above that a claim for gastrogard without scoping shouldnt be a problem however I think it might.

Has anybody manage to claim for ulcer treatment on their insurance without scoping ?

Thanks in advance

I would just call the insurer and get them to agree the treatment before you start. Usually they require the vets to send in a preliminary claim form (which was either emailed or faxed to the insurance company). I've done this for both my claims and they've been really good at agreeing very quickly (within a few hours).

If you want to be sure of cover, this will give you that certainty.

Hope that helps :)

I do know of an insurance claim bein settled for Gastroguard being prescribed without scoping, but definately worth a quick phonecall to your insurance company to put your mind at ease x

From an insurance companies perspective, the can either pay out for scoping or pay for a course of Gastroguard - both options could result in not solving the issues but the Gastroguard is the cheaper option... if the Gastroguard does work then the insurance company has saved on the scoping.
