Hi has anyone here had experience of claiming of someone elses insurance when their horse has been kicked badly by another horse ie two horses in a field and my horse has been kicked by the other horse (was seen) and has had to go to Liphook regarding broken bone in leg.
thanks in advance

No experience, BUT ring your insurance company because they will be able to help you. Do you know if the other person does have 3rd party insurenace?

I have never heard of anyone doing this.

I'm sorry for what's happened, but I have always turned my horses out with other horses on the understanding I knew what the other horses were like and he could be injured as horses are horses....

Has the owner of the other horse who kicked yours suggested using her insurance policy?

Hi spoken to the other owner and she is okay about this, spoken to pet plan and they said this can be done, It is claimed under 3rd party liability, but it can be a complicated claim. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this. My horsey an oldie sonot insured for this. I am paying the bill but just wondered what my chances are of claiming any of it back. To date about £5000

It will depend on the company.
As far as I am aware 3rd party normally comes into play when it is accidental damage where the person/item/animal involved didn't choose to be there- ie you're out hacking and the horse spooks and knocks a cyclist off their bike, they didn't ask to be there and weren't expecting it/aware of the potential risk so they claim against you for damages.
As owners you chose to put your horse out in the field with others and I'd say it's a fairly well thought thing that horses are horses and accidents happen and by putting the horse in a field with others you accepted the fact there was a risk that the other horse could kick yours (and equally, vice versa)
