Has anyone experience of claiming (and obtaining) death of horse payment from their insurance company? I have been advised that the horse needs to literally have a leg hanging off for the insurance company to pay out.
My horse is really poorly and has been given a 50/50 chance of pulling through due to an antibiotic resistant wound. He has had aggressive surgical and antibiotic treatment, with little effect, in the past 4 weeks, cannot weight bear on the limb in question and has a horrible discharging wound. My vet agrees that if in 10 days time there has been no progress then he should be PTS on humane grounds but reckons I will not qualify for death of horse payment as it does not meet certain criteria.
Can anyone give me some advice? I have run up a huge vet bill (over and above what I am covered for by my insurance), am beside myself with worry and after the news I have had today this adds insult to injury.
