Horse was poorly over Xmas and needed enough vet treatment to go over my excess. I called insurance company within a couple of days of first vet visit and they sent a claim form out. All forms (mine and vet) were completed and sent back to them by the middle of Jan.

Call insurance co today...."sorry, we have a backlog and haven't assessed it yet, we'll try to do it next week"

Grrrr. Insurance companies make me mad. I never do anything that goes against the T&Cs in the policy, tell them about everything and always pay on time... and they haven't assessed my claim that they've had for nearly a month!

Sorry, rant over now. Please tell me it's not just me and my insurance co?!

For the record, it's not E&L either! It's one of the more "reputable" ones!

Well mine took a month to settle but its irrelevant cos they paid the vet direct. However, I don't see why I had to pay for claim form to be completed by the vet - they charged £14 for this just to write a few words and sign it! Why don't the insurance company pay for that - I couldn't be bothered to complain though!

I've never been charged for the vet to fill in a claim form!

Is she mended now?

My insurance company took 9 months to pay out for Syd's injury and vet hospital treatment, and they are one of the 'reputable ones' too. And they had the cheek to deduct the livery costs while stabled at the vet hospital (10 days).

My insurance company took 1 1/2 months to sort out my final claim for Mazzie, which was VERY clear cut (she didn't have a pre-existing broken back!). It was a big claim so I can understand their wanting to get it right I guess...

I've never had a problem with mine up until now, but having said that when I last claimed it was when Amtrust had taken my policy with them when they stopped being underwriter of said insurer and started on their own.

Amtrust were really good (paid up within days) so I may look to change to them when my policies are due for renewal if this isn't resolved quickly.

Yep she's all mended and back to her usual self - though still yet to venture back to the outdoor school/hacking out but we have the indoor sussed!

I'm going to be down that way in a couple of weeks, I'll have to pop by and say hello to you both

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. I was also insured with ED and swapped to AmTrust when they had all they changeover.

I am so glad i stuck with AmTrust now, I had a claim at the beginning of the year and they paid up the day after receiving the forms.

I am assuming from your second post that you are still with ED, and have to say that a friend has also got a claim with them at the mo which she sent in Nov which they have assessed but wont issue the money.

I wonder what the problem is?

Yes I'm still with ED. I have one policy due for renewal in April or May (they do that thing where you pay over 9 months to cover for 12, so that policy is paid up now) which I will more than likely change to Amtrust. I will also move the trailer policy then, and I will see about changing new boy's policy (the one who's claim is currently being assessed) at the same time.

I've never had trouble with ED before but am getting a bit narked now. Thankfully I'm only claiming for about £250 but if your friend has waited more than 3 months already, I don't hold out much hope for hearing anytime soon.

They promised me it would be assessed by the middle of next week so I'll call them again on Wednesday to chase I think. They have absolutely no reason to turn the claim down as he just had a virus, completely random occurrance, so should be straightforward. Plus I've already paid the vet's bill so they only need to pay me back
