Ok so stupid question... horse has been on a course of gastroguard for the past month, going for rescoping this friday to see whats going on.

My insurance is due to run out at the end of June, but due to work commitments, I really need a few ideas what to do before then.

If I change insurance companies, does the current insurer still have to pay out on my ulcer claim?

No leflynn that's wrong. A claim runs from 12 months of you starting the claim, this makes no difference if you do not renew. Read your terms and conditions, if any doubt, ring current company and ask.

I have done this, started a new policy with new company with ongoing claim. It's a common held mis-belief.

^ This. I changed insurer a month after starting a claim and continued to claim on the old policy for the full 12 months. You've already paid the premium, so they have to pay the claim. Chances are it will be excluded whether you renew or switch now anyway.

Just an aside, if you are changing insurance companies get as many quotes and shop around as much as you can. Its incredible the difference in prices.

It might be worth asking what their criteria is for storage of tack. I've been paying a substantial amount on my premium for my tack for the last couple of years, with my previous insurance company blissfully unaware that their criteria on tack has changed. Most people are not insured unlesss you have tack stored in an alarmed and mortice locked building.

I must point out if anyone knows me and wants to rob me :) that our tack is very safe in its current state and we have an automatic gate, guard dogs, CCTV and the yard owner can see from their house a few yards away, but this is not enough for insurance companies.

I did ask and that was the response i got - I pay my insurance monthly so not sure if this makes a difference?
