Insurance Companies.....who are the best???

I've just bought a horse - subject to vetting and wondered if any of you have advise re which insurance co to use or more importantly NOT to use!

I will be doing RC stuff, hacking, sponcered rides, etc etc - so not exactly olympic standard here!

Any advice greatfully received!

Stay well away from E&L.

NFU are good as are SEIB. SEIB are good if you have BHS Gold membership as you already have their 3rd party. Some cover transport, some don't (as in to vet hospitals) and the same goes for alternative therapies so have a look at the t&c's. I am with Scottish equestrian now who are great, and underwritten by the same as Petplan (also good but I found pricey), and cover transport and alternative therapies. To be honest, most of the big names you see are OK.....just NOT E&L!!!!!
 
NFU for sure followed closely by Pet Plan but when I had quotes NFU worked out cheaper, good luck with your new horse
 
I use PetPlan, but have never had to claim with the horses (touch wood). Have claimed loads with the dogs and havent had any problems at all.

I went with petplan as they cover illness to 25, which is quite important to me. They also do lifetime cover and dont smack exclusions on if you claim. (I think, though I obviously havent tested this!)

Hate to tell you this but Petplan do indeed smack you with exclusions for everything possible after you claim and sometimes even when you haven't. I even have viral infections excluded from my policy. Cheers for that Petplan, next horse will be insured with someone else!
 
AIMS are fantastic- no flashy websites just a proper horsey person on the phone- Premiums are 40% lower than NFU for my boys, no silly exclusions eg one cob had laminitis with previous owner- not excluded. other cob tweaked check ligament- not excluded either! Paid out for long investigation into lameness and lots of treatment with no hassle.

PS I DONT work for them!!!!
