I need to take out a new policy on a youngster and wanted to know who you guys all use and are you happy. I am currently with Petplan for my horse that is in work and I am pleased but the premium they are quoting for youngster is a little high (same as riding horse) even tho he is at grass

Just wondered who you are all with and are you happy

I am with Stoneways for my horse & KBIS for the trailer - have claimed in the past for my horse and am very happy with the service

I'm with Petplan with one horse and NFU with another. Petplan have paid out brilliantly for me and cant fault them.

However on my new horse I am using NFU as their premiums were very competitive for loss of use - which looks like I may have to use soon.

Thanks- they came out with a very cheap quote

I'm with SEIB who seem to have competitive rates. Fortunately (touches wood) I've never had to make a claim, so can't comment on what they are like in that respect - but they did come recommended.

I'm with SEIB and although their service is good, I am considering not renewing with them this year as their premium has gone up by 20%!!!! AND I dropped him down a class of use....

If anyone has any recommendations for a happy hacker type insurance, I need to know!

I'm with Equestrian Direct and have made a maximum vet's fees claim (after eight months of owning the horse). They were fab, hardly a question asked and no problems at all. They were also fab when I had my first pony with them and I had to claim, again for vet's fees. No trouble at all and very helpful when I have a question to ask. I would use them again.

I'm with AmTrust and they have been good so far. Not had to claim yet though,

Same here. I was with NFU with my previous horse and when I sold him and cancelled the policy they said if I wanted to take out another horse insurance policy in the future, I wouldn't be able to unless I had another product with them to (e.g. car or house insurance). I think this is a shame as they would be my insurers of choice. They gave me a very reasonable premium on my other horse and when I had to make a claim, it was very straightforward and quick.

I had EXACTLY that problem when I tried to insure with them before- I can't tell you how annoyed I was with them

SO I really don't think they will quote me to be honest

Im with pet plan as they are the only ones who will insure my veteran for illness (mainly colic im worried about). all the other companies have it restricted to visable external injuries only

I didn't vote in the poll as all our horses are insured with different companies. The reason for this is that we once had a pony suffer from a virus and aneamia and the NFU excluded all of our horses for it

. Apart form that the NFU have been pretty good, although they refused point blank to pay my horse's rehab bills of over £1000 that were meant to be covered. SEIB have always paid although they kept trying to hike the premium up massively. We found if you phone them and query it they'll reduce it by a fair amount. E&L were the cheapest to insure my old TB and to give them their due they paid out over £5000 in 3yrs.

Thanks all. I had opted for Petplan and when i rang to take out the policy it seems the quote was wrong and a lot more so i am going to ring them all tomorrow and see.

thanks again for the responses

NFU all the way!! Not the cheapest around but paid out with no quibbles on a policy that was only about 6 weeks old. The only thing I would say is that in my info pack they said that they would settle transport costs up to £500 but it has to be a defra licensed transporter which can be a bit difficult to come by in my area for short trips to the vets as the only one near me is an international transporter whose samllest lorry is for 7 horses - not great for the narrow lane I am on

Many years ago I was with Pet Plan but it was expensive, but they were very good, I'm now with NFU, as I insure several and they are excellent and very reasonable.
I also insure my car and trailer with them .My car insurance went down by £100 per annum with NFU, so well worth it.

Thanks all

I phoned NFU hours ago and they still haven't rung me back with the quote.
KBIS is the most favourable at the moment so I will wait to hear what NFU say before deciding

Thanks again for all your input!
