around janurary 2010 my mare had a VERY minor bout of colic. she showed a bit of discomfort around her stomach, though had still been eating and going to the toilet. however, i obviously I had the vet out and he gave her an injection to relax the gut, and she was totally fine later on in the day.
cost so little i didnt need to claim on my insurance (well under £100 for injection and call out) and have had no problem at all since with stomach pain/colic or anything else since which is good
.....
however, i have been trying to change my insurance policy as i am paying £50 a month for pretty basic insurance for my mare who i basically just hack, school and go to the occasional show with which i think is a little much, and they have just upped the monthly cost despite never having claimed in two years.
but, the insurance company i was looking into will not cover any colic my horse may get in the future as i mentioned she has had it in the past. i will be saving around £30 a month on this insurance but I can't help worrying that i would not be able to cover the costs on my own if she were to have a serious bout of colic.
does anyone know of any insurance companies who will cover an injury a horse had previously? I would not mind if the excess was increased because of said problem, or if i had to pay a little more each month for it to be included but I would like the peace of mind knowing she is covered if the worst came to the worst
thanks for taking the time to read, know it was long winded but wanted to cover everything ;-)
