Anyone who insured with KBIS, what are they like?

I received my renewal notice from NFU today and am reeling with shock. The premium will go up 37% at renewal on 1st March and I haven't made a claim in 3 years! I rang to query it to be told that they are "getting a lot of calls like this. . . . all insurance has gone up and the average is 42%". Well, not with my money it hasn't - I haven't had a pay rise in 3 years and I really cannot afford £72 a month!

I have a quote from KBIS which is only fractionally more expensive than my current NFU premium for pretty much the same cover, I was just wondering what they are like to deal with . . do they pay out quickly/pay vet direct etc etc.

Any comments will be helpful.

Thanks

I have just signed up with KBIS as they were the cheapest around for my new chap and seemed to offer more than anyone else, I'd be interested in your responses :)

Im with KBIS, at the recommendation of my yard owner and my instructor.
Im on my second year with them so far, no claims but no complaints either.
My yard owner and instructors have their horses insured along with their teaching insurance, public liability and employers liability with them and so far i have only heard good things :)

My friend has her horse insured with KBIS. They haver always paid out, but have been funny with exclusions and if you have an ongoing problem they make your vet fill out a claim form EVERY time you send an invoice. Really hacked off her vet!

Unfortunately insurance premiums for animal insurance go up every year, unlike other insurances such as car. They can't offer a 'no claims discount' as it may discourage people actually seeking veterinary attention for their animals. Premiums go up to keep in line with increasing vet fees and also if they have had a high number of claims they need to gain some extra money, otherwise they wouldn't be able to pay out anymore! There's also loads of other technical stuff relating to why a premium has increased so much.

I would suggest looking around elsewhere and then really moan at NFU about the massive increase and say you want a discount else your going elsewhere. Its suprising sometimes how having a moan can get results!

As for KBIS wanting a claim form with every invoice sent, this isn't unusual. Only your vet can verify that that treatment was necessary for that particular condition and was recommended/given by them. Stops (or tries to prevent) people making fraudulent claims

hi i use kbis, i claimed back in 2009 and were excellent i also had exclusuions on my show horse and i didnt have problems, i made a claim which went through very quick, paid my vets directly and didnt question the referal to leahurst ethier and paid out quickly there also, i always kept the insurance upto date on proceedings and how my horse was doing whilst at my own vets and at leahurst, they also paid my livery but however i did pay quite alot out in livery as he was there for over two weeks and had 1 week at my own vets prior to the referal so my limit for livery was up, i would certainly recommend them.

Vet referred a course of physio treatment over a period of time.... every time physio invoice was sent a vet claim form had to be filled in. I have only ever insured with NFU and Equestian Direct and I know SEIB don't ask you to do that either. Don't think it's that common as the vet got really cross about it!

The insurance company I worked for would ask for a claim form for 'complementary' therapies too.

You'd be suprised at the number of invoices we received that didn't have any policy information on it at all! Not sure how people thought we'd be able to process them!

It is annoying but because our terms said the vet had to endorse all treatment, that went for physio, farrier etc too so they could confirm they still recommended that treatment and the company wasn't paying out for something the vet had later advised against

Vet had been up and assessed horse at start of claim and referred physio treatment. Infact she sedated him for the first 2 treatments. She then wrote on the original claim form that she had advised follow up physio treatment.... The physio invoices were went with a covering note with policy details on.

I have definitely decided to change insurers. I sat and read all NFU's paperwork last night and they have very generously (please excuse sarcasm) included a mutual "bonus" of £89.71 in that premium so without the "bonus" the premium would actually have gone up a massive 54% which, I'm sorry, is totally outrageous. So much for 17 years loyalty during which time I have made two claims . . . . .

KBIS here I come . . . .

There is no such thing as a Loyalty when it comes to Insurance company's. It's sad but a fact & there getting worse, cherry picking who they want also.
