(May be long....)
So today eagerly anticipated NFU renewal popped through the door, I was expecting a huge increase in premiums and therefore am not overly shocked. I have a vague plan but would appreciate some ideas!
For my 2 horses it has gone from just under £60 a month to £74, which I can afford thanks do a timely payrise, however realistically I know I can make some changes and get a better deal.
So horse 1 is Paddy, 12 yo gelding, has have extensive treatment for bilateral spavins, and is currently having treamant for hind PSD (probably related to the spavins.) I can't move from NFU however I may considering reducing the amount he is insured for right down to the minimum amount. He is insured for £3k - he is (finanancially) worth nothing now. He is retired - is there any scope for lowering the level of cover? My big fear is colic surgery, or a broken leg, I have my own land for him to mooch around on. Or should I take the plunge and have him uninsured and make peace with the fact that if anything major happened to him I would have to PTS (not sure I would put him through anything major after all the treatment he has had recently.) I do have a credit card for emergencies.
Horse 2 is my 3yo gelding who I would like to move to another company as I have lost faith in NFU - not because of the cost but because of they way they have dealt with my claims. I hear good things about KBIS - any others worth looking into?
Thankyou in advance - I have PL already.
