I've been looking online and I keep getting asked for my mobile number etc when looking for basic quotes which makes me a bit nervous so I thought for a ballpark, I could ask here instead.
I've never had my horse insured before but i'm thinking now is a good time and I wondered if anyone could give me a ROUGH idea of what i'm looking at monthly for the following -

Cover for large vet fees and third party liability.

Lilly is 5yrs 6mths old mare
Arab x Welsh
Never had any problems with illness or disease
Used for hacking, schooling, maybe small local shows etc. Leisure only
I would assume she is worth around £1,200 - £1,500 now but this hasn't been quoted, just a guess.

When the time comes I will be going into it all in detail with the insurers but right now i'm trying to work out some finances to do with moving area and getting a new job etc so just a rough figure would be helpful so that I can account for insurance in these workings out.

Thank you!

Hard to say but I used to pay £500-£600 per year for vets fees, loss, public liability for my 16.3hh mare of 9 yrs (and up until she was about 12yrs when I stopped the vets fees cover) and she was valued at £5000 or thereabouts then.

I wouldn't worry too much about being asked for your mobile number - I used to get all my quotes online and I never had any hassle as a result. It's def worth doing as you can compare quotes a lot easier and quicker.

My new pony is a 5 yr old exmoor, insured for her full value and all activities except advanced eventing, point to point/ racing and horse boarding. She has 5k vets fees, motality, disposal all for £28 a month with nfu.

I have no idea what the premium will be but do bear in mind most insurance companies will want a vetting done if you are taking out a new policy on a horse you have owned for some time, they are covering themselves in case you are trying to insure a horse with a possible preexisting condition in order to get vets fees paid for, they will ask you numerous questions about it's health but may still come back to you asking for a vetting to be done.

I' m paying just over £300 a year mainly just for vets bills but am wondering why I do! I only have a £3000 limit which wouldn't cover a large operation (but not sure would put mine through one as now 15). I use BHS for public liability and don't have tack, etc insured
