Just had my renewals through, and noticed they have changed the policy excess to £160+17% of total claim!

I didn’t want a high excess policy, so looks like ill be changing insurers! Any recommendations?

Shop around for sure but you get what you pay for. its very boring but you do need to read the smal print. I'm sure for an increased premium IE will reduce the excess, but if you speak to them there may be something which you have covered which could be removed? All insurance is going up as there are so many expensive procedures these days

I agree, but even so, I don’t want to be worrying about finding 17% of a huge bill.

I’ve just had a look at KBIS and they seem to be only £2 more a month than IE, with a more predictable (but higher than £160) excess! Might be worth a look for you

I’ve been with E&L for years and always had a 17% of claim plus the excess (£150 it was I think)?

I shopped around using a broker though this year and got like for like cover elsewhere for less. OH rang E&L to cancel his policy and they price matched his renewal with elsewhere.

so might be worth going back to them with alternative quotes?

Yep! Both policies so looks like it’s being snuck in for those who don’t read the renewal info!
To be fair I was/am mid claim so would have felt over a barrel to renew anyway I guess. I’d rethink next year though! (Well unless this whole thing gos with no more hassle!!)

I wonder if they did or do a few options? Premiums are lower if you choose a fixed amount and percentage rather then just the fixed excess?
Mine was definitely only £160.
