My horse excess is £500 and I have paid that to vets directly , the total cost of his treatment is less than 500 do
I the get the remainder back ? I hand been told that you do

No, you won't get the excess back.

The insurance company will start paying once the fees exceed £500. So you have to pay the first £500, however, once this has been paid the insurance company will pay the remainder of fees up to the limit stated on your policy.

Unless you're expecting more treatment/invoices you've overpaid your vet! When you submit your claim to the insurance company be sure to submit the invoices for treatment you have just paid for and note on the form that you have paid the excess to the vet

D'oh - think I misread the question

Yes vets should pay back the remainder. However if you are expecting more vet fees and will claim through insurance may be worth them hanging on to it
