I've heard it all now, my insurance company who will remain anonymous, have sent me my first renewal forms through from them. When I first took out insurance with them this time last year I had to list any treatment my horse had had. About 6 years ago he had mild rainscald - just tiny gooey paintbrush scabs through his coat but no actual big patches or anything - got vet out just to check what it was and all cleared up with medicated shampoo and cream - was all gone within a week! The insurance company have now put rainscald as an exclusion on my policy - is that not absolutely ridiculous?!

write to them and ask them to remove it - worked for me :) When I insured Spider I had to disclose he'd had a hoof abcess previously and they excluded it - I sent them a nice email asking them to reconsider because a previous hoof abcess didn't mean he was likely to get one again as it was generally the result of a bacterial infection from a puncture wound, and they did :D I think it's standard for them to exclude anything without thinking about whether it's likely to reoccur, but if you push them they'll often reconsider.

When I got my horse 6 years ago, rainscald was mentioned on the vetting... well, yes? He was at a dealers, lacked condition and had been living out in very wet conditions with other rather poor horses with no rug.

Got him home, treated it and it never came back. But the insurance put it as an exclusion (along with the cold splint that was also mentioned in the vetting) and it's been there for the last 6 years

I must try writing to see if we can get it taken off...

taz isnt insured for any of his tendons or ligaments because he had puffy hocks after standing in and he failed a flextion test trotting 1 stride unlevel, we never had any treatments she just checked him as we mentioned it when she was doing his jabs, she screwed us right over and he was only 4 at the time. hes also not insured for absesses as he had one in his foot which had burst and he was sound before the vet even came to see him so no treatment was done blooming rediculous -.-

When I had a 4 year old vetted 16 years ago (things may have changed now) rain scald scars were mentioned.
My Insurance Company tried to exclude all skin conditions!!
I hastily called them, it was removed immediately.
