Hey guys, I have a Ford Ranger pick up and I am struggling to get insurance for under £450 per year, I have 10 years protected no claims bonus, am over 40 years of age and held a UK Driving Licence for 27 years. I have tried several Insurance Companies and have been told that they do not insure my car, it is a bog standard Ford Pick Up truck 2.5 litre not a blink in' Ferrari!!! I have typed my registration number into the compare sites to be informed that my reg doesn't exist!!!

Does anyone else have any problems and if so, what company do they use?

Yup, that is who I use, my colleague has a Mitsubishi puck up and his insurance fully com pus £300, exactly the same size engine etc, any reason for this?

Yep same probs - mine is from Aviva too, via Autonet - £380ish this year - same age, over 40 - and 5 yrs no claims bonus. A lot of companies won't insure as it's classed as a van.

Our Nissan pick up is about £560 with the NFU who are sooooo pricey and, no, they are not very good if you have a claim! I will be shopping around when renewal comes. I've heard Chaucer Direct are very reasonable.

Tesco, been with them for 10 years now, Im 33 and have a Nissan Navara, £300 a year with 10yrs no claims (not protected) , windscreen cover, low excess etc, Do the online quote then ring them and they will do the phone price cheaper than online, works for me!

Fab jakkibag, I will gave a look now. The Aviva quote is the one I have at £452!!!! I wish I had ever bought the damn thing!!!!!

They are classed as commercial, I have a feeling ours is with direct line. Bloomin tip wont let us in without a permit either. Remember the driver affects the price as much as the insurance, will depend who the insurers preferred target group is.

Yep classed as a commercial (good in a way as get cheaper tax than a lot of big jeeps). Another one with Aviva.

Wohaaaaaay thank you for the advice jakkibag, as soon as I saw your post, I got straight onto Tesco website and been quoted over £100 less than Aviva and the rang me back 30 mins after I got my quotations, very impressed - happy days!!!

Now all of us with Aviva are a bit miffed lol! Shall def try Tesco next time! First few quotes I had after we bought the Ranger 3 yrs ago was over £900 - So anything around £500 was a bonus!

Three important things to consider when insuring commercials
One most wont insure anybody under 25

two they wont automatically accept NCD from cars( company specific) Also the NCD rates are lower

Three and this is very important ! if you are used to driving other vehicles that your fully comp ins lets you drive ie somebody elses car even though you are not on their insurance. commercial insurance will not let you do this so beware of thinking you are covered in an emergency
