Who does everyone insure their foals with? The cheapest i can find is £25... I thought that was quite expensive for something just sitting in a field?

Having the same problem! Horse-insurance.co.uk come up at £15 a month withouth public liabity, as I have BHS, but they are a subsidiary of E And L, and I have heard mixed reviews on them. Maybe forced that route, as my usual companies(broker and sheerwater) wanted £400 each foal, which is ridiculous that's more than one of them cost!
If anyone has any other suggestions, I would also like a resolution.

My foally is insured with SEIB, same as the mare and he's only a tiny bit cheaper - I think it's cause foals are quite high risk for injury or illness as they do tend to get into pickles.

Spottyappy i wouldnt touch anything to do with e&l!! Think ill stick to kbis, think it worked out £305 a year and thats with vet fees and public liability. Ive used them in the past and they are wonderful for paying out.... Just abit shocked it was the same price for our ridden 3 year old! x

I insured my yearling with petplan at £11 a month, thats good cover but he isnt allowed to leave my land so no road training or anything, i was surprised it was so cheap especially as he was a colt at the time

Not sure what it would be for a foal though

Im with petplan, he is now 18 months old and im paying £29 a month. I had to get a mortality certificate from my vet which cost £85 as he was just over 4 weeks when I insured him.

A few people have mentioned that but im not a member x

Check how much you'll save on the policy, though - if you'd save more than £65 by taking off the public liability element you're better off doing that and joining the BHS. It was more cost-effective for me so definitely worth checking.

When I got my horse at 8 months old I insured her with NFU, she was covered for everything, vets fees up to £9K and she was covered for showing( in hand) and hacking ( in hand) think it was about £35/ month. Might be on the expensive side but I was happy she was covered.

I have been with Shearwater since the renewal was due with NFU as they wanted too much money. :)

The bulk of insurance premiums is the vet fee cover. As christine48 said, vet fees for adults and foals are the same. In fact in my experience, some foals are very accident prone and seem to view the vet as their best friend!
