Insurance for house and yard

Hi Everyone - I'd love some of your experiences. I am moving house next week, and am beyond excited as, for the first time ever, I'll have my horses at home. YEAH!

Anyway, I am arranging the home insurance, and want to make sure we are well covered. Normal policies do seem to cover the stables as part of the usual home and outbuildings cover, but I'm struggling to get enough contents cover for outbuildings. Adding up my tack room contents got me to 3k - and that's without saddles! By the time we add gardening gear, my boyfriends many, expensive mountain bikes etc, it's a big number

Can anyone recommend a good policy? I have visions of trying to make a claim some day, and the company not quite getting how much horsey stuff you need

Any claims experiences particularly welcome!

try the nfu.

they were really helpful when we moved to our farm. they came out and walked around everywhere to make sure we were completly covered.

they put everything under one policy which makes it really easy. plus, if i need to make any changes, i deal with the same lady at our local office who is very helpful.

Same - went with the NFU, it included cover for the move as well. The stables are covered as well as the house, tractor, poo vacuum, etc. Plus my policy has employers liability which is great as it covers my groom too!
My local office (which now isn't local) have always been really helpful and friendly.

Thanks everyone - sorry it has taken so long to reply - packing boxes is such a pain.

So quite a resounding vote for NFU! Funnily enough both my girls are insured with them and I did wonder about them, so will call tomorrow to get a quote.

Thanks again. Now prepare yourself for a barrage of questions - it's the first time I've not had them on livery, albeit DIY, so will no doubt have endless questions about fencing, pasture management, muck heap disposal, etc etc
