Does anyone have specific accident insurance for riding? I mean something that will compensate you if you break a leg or similar? I have BHS gold membership but I think that just covers if I break someone else's leg... very confused!

yes I think that's what I get from the BHS but I'm looking for something that will cover me personally as I'd lose income if I broke a limb.

I have a rider only policy with E&L, I think loads of people on here have rider-only policy with different places.
I only got mine for the public liability element, gives me a bit of peace of mind when I'm riding a mental 'un!

It was recommended by quite a few members here to me and I'm sure they all said it covered me, personally?
I'm pretty sure it covers you

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

I have a seperate accident / personal injury policy, that covers for broken bones, loss of fingers, toes, limbs, eyes and so on......................hope I never need to use it!

Most membership's like BHS give public liability (third party) plus basic personal accident (death / permanent total disablement) but this won't cover loss of earnings.

I think some Rider only plan's like pet plan's cover some loss of earnings.

If you already have the liability cover then try for a personal accident policy for horse riders - think Shearwater do this or try Pet Plan, etc.

Ifyou want an income replacemnt for if you have an injury and cannot work, then you need a policy for that from a genreal lilfe type insurance compnay All horse relatedones sonly pay on a samll amount on total disablement and or dental fees.
If a broken leg from riding would cause you a problem, then so woudl a broken leg from falling dowstairs etc. Or ifyou bacem ill, rather than injured
if you take into accoutn how much your employer would pay and for how long, it may not be overly expensive, expect a good £10 plus per month though, for a very basic one.

Thanks everyone I'm getting a clearer picture.

I'm sure I have the public liability covered for riding my share horse by being a BHS gold member so I can trot about causing mayhem and be sued by all and sundry but I didn't think it would give me much, if anything for leg breaking etc.

I am my employer (i.e. self employed) so would get sod all out of the boss if I was ill/injured. I suppose I think of that happening through riding as it's the most dangerous thing I do but you are right lcobby I could easily fall down the stairs etc.. so I need a general policy.

But then I get even more confused as to which one is worth it!!!
