Insurance for older horses- how much do you pay?

I'm interested to know roughly what others pay. My horse is now 18 and is insured with Petplan. She had a deep digital flexor tendon injury so the insurance have ruled out problems involving the pedal bone. She's been back in full work for I think a year or so now. Anyway my insurance has gone from £39 to 46 a month which seems a lot. It does include up to £5000 vets fees. I've already decreased her value to £900. Just wondered roughly what others are paying for similar age horses?
 
I'm with Petplan for my 25 yo, and pay just under £35

They have just paid out my claim for cushings with no quibble but as of renewal I may cancel due to Vets Fees no longer being covered due to his age
 
£21 per month with KBIS. Injury only and third party. He is 23 semi retired, £130 excess £3000 per incident. You can have colic etc if you like I just don't see the point as if my boy colicked that badly that a jab of bute and buscopan couldn't sort him he wouldn't be put through surgery or invasive procedures I would let him go peacefully with dignity.

Will point out that he's never colicked in 12years of ownership and on a mainly fibre diet no cereals and everything soaked :)
 
I pay £60 odd quid a month with PetPlan for my 17 year old. They were the only people who would offer 5k vets fees for accident and illness cover on her cause of her age so I didn't really have a choice, she is fit and well, still competing and copes well with box rest so I would consider operating on an injury despite her age if required and wanted to ensure the funds were there if required.
 
I have been with Petplan for 13years. I pay £33.00 a month my mare is now 19. She is not on the veteran plan I have kept up her normal insurance for the moment.
We have made 2 claims this year for tooth root abcess and cushings. So expect its going to go up at renewal in July. I made one claim just over 10 years ago for a tendon/ligament injury. So now both her front legs are excluded.
 
22.90 for Alf (16) with KBIS, vets fees up to 3k per incident, based on minimum possible value, as he's (on paper) not worth anything.
19.30 for Spike (19) third party and external injury only, also based on minimum poss value - athough I may have to review with them, as I went for this policy based on him being a retired companion - but it turns out that he's a very capable little horse, who is back in work and wants to go to parties!
 
My 19 year old was with kbis. It was £42 a month.
I cancelled it because it was an awful lot of money to pay when I wouldn't claim much back (wont put her through surgery, her legs which are her problem are exempt, if she were pts I doubt they would pay out as she has no market value as a retired horse who needs a lot of care to keep sound.
she now just has bhs gold member insurance and I put money aside for her
 
My 18 year old gelding is insured with Scottish Equestrian and it is £26 per month. It is for vets fee up to £3000.
 
I'm with Animal Friends and pay £29/month for my 23yr old gelding, who is valued at £1000. He's got exclusions on both hinds - he did a hind SDFT 18 months ago. They were fab and paid out quickly.
 
Am not sure what mine are each, but I have a 21yo, a 17yo, and a 5yo, all insured with NFU, vet fees, 3rd party etc. With the trailer as well, I pay £144 per month. Will have to review the cover of the older 2, as like many on here, there are certain things I wouldn't put them through now because of age.
 
I pay with E&L £13 a month for my 18 year old. He's had an eye operation also. £2000 is maximum he's insured for total, but includes all the usual insurance ad dons too. Good price.
 
I didn't bother with insurance for my old girl (had BHS gold membership for third party). I would never have put her through surgery, and my dad is a vet so I knew he would put her down when the day came. all I would have had covered at her age (35) would have been euthanasia (dad) and carcass disposal (dad's friend).
