Don't often come into this section, but I thought I'd share.....

I have 2 cockers, my insurance premium with HP's went from £33 to £68 this month, the excess was increased and a new clause that owners pay 25% on top of the excess of any claim for a dog over the age of 5.

Needless to say, I cancelled my policy. I mean, what did they expect?

WTF>????!!!!

I pay £26 per month now for my dog and I say now because they've paid out so much and she has arthritis so keep paying out for painkillers!!! Previously I was paying about £15/month?!!

Who's HP???

I've been with Direct line, paid out, but only do 12 month policies
Tesco paid out buy only do 12 month policies
am currently with Sainsburys for my dog who don't have a time limit, only once you reach the maximum of £6000 per claim does the condition become none covered, and post office for my cats.

Some companies will do the percentage, but I believe the percentage is instead of your excess not aswell as (could be wrong on that) and it's once the dog or cat reaches the age where it is regarded as 'geriatric!!' in other words 8-10 years old. But this will vary from company to company.

They do ones with no time limit now too, it's about an extra £2 a month. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them based on the experience I've had so far. :)

Rotchana, was this totally out of the blue or have you claimed in the past 12 months? Ridiculous if you haven't!

Thats worrying.Im with healthy pets and have had a few claims. have always found them to be very good but that sounds as if they may be changing things. One of my dogs is too old to insure with a new company so it might be a problem.

I have claimed £200 for a lump removed from Barneys shoulder which was non cancerous, but I paid an excess on that too, other than that it's completely out of the blue.

crikey, check what they're charging you. I had the renewal notice 2 days ago, which showed the ridiculous hike, they can go whistle now:mad:

Ive just had mine through from Petplan....I had to have a little sit down!

Can anyone recommend a policy that will cover vets and public liability without it costing me a fortune for two dogs? I dont mind £100 xs.

You can get public liability cover, if you don't have as part of home insurance, for £20 a year for up to ten dogs by joining the Dogs Trust.

Bumping this as need to insure the pups and not sure if Tesco will be thrilled with a rather huge claim just handed in! Would prefer vets' cover over £3000.

Sainsbury is looking good: £7000 vets' cover (faint, it's more than the horse policy!), no time limit on claims and cheaper than Tesco.

We had our previous boy insured with More Than and have our current boy with them too, never had an issue claims paid straight away with the least hassle.

Would definitely recommend :D
