Horse is currently only covered for visible external injury. His insurance renews at the end of this month to include vets fees with a different company. Was with E and L but they don't do veteran vet fee cover so going with insurance emporium. I know a lot don't like these companies but I never had a problem with E and L.

EDT came out 6 months ago and mentioned horse had a chipped tooth. He made nothing of it, just said keep an eye on it. It's caused no issues so far. Vet checked his teeth today and saw chip and said he was a little sensitive around it and perhaps it might be an idea to have him in for a look. She said sedation with a good look at the tooth would be around a couple of hundred pounds. He isn't showing any signs of discomfort so my gut feeling is leave it for the time being. Not sure what to do as regards to insurance? Can't currently claim as it's only visible external injury. Could I claim on next policy after 14 days but vet has picked it up today so would insurance question that? I could just pay for the investigation but it could be quite costly if he needs treatment. I suppose I could have it removed, is that expensive? TIA

Only costs £95 for sedation, good look and float of teeth with a highly qualified vet who specialises in teeth where I am..which wouldn’t break the bank…wonder why a couple of hundred quoted… I hope you find an economical route forward.

My horse was discovered to have a broken tooth not long after I bought him. The insurance company said they wouldn’t pay for it to be removed as it was probably there when I got him. The vet wrote them a letter saying it had to done and in the end they agreed to pay half. As it was a back tooth it cost £1500 about 15 years ago.

Our other horse got kicked in the mouth (we think). Dentist noticed a horizontal crack across the tooth, gave it a wiggle and it broke in half. Some time later it got infected and had to be taken out. As it was a front tooth it was much cheaper than a back one.
