Just put what is on his passport so long as it is a genuine passport!! the insurance company goes on his papers not what someone thinks he may or may not be! I use AMTrust, they are one of the cheapest companies with superb reasoning and pay up without any quibbles unlike E&L !!!

Never had any problems with NFU, thay have been brilliant and boy have I used them

. I'd ring and just explain or just accept what youve been told for now and insure him as a Trakenner sp. Im sure you will have no problems.

He should have given it to you when you collected the horse. Agree though, tell the insurance company what it says on the passport - although if memory serves me right, they will also want the passport number, and issuing office.

I'm with NFU - have been for many years, and they are wonderful.

I work for the NFU Mutual in the SW and sell horse insurance. The best bet is to ask your vet as he would of dealt with most companies. I speak to a lot of customers who move to us after problems with claims and hidden charges!! Our premiums are based on value for Loss of Animal and flat rates for Vets Fees, P.L etc. I hope this helps.

Im paying £360 ish with NFU and thats for everything including loss of use. My horse is insured for what I paid for him but is probably worth a lot more now as he was a just backed 3 yr old. I tried to keep costs down by not increasing his value. My main concern is vets fees and 3rd party liability.
Theres one company Ive heard bad things about and they put flyers in the horse mags. Dont want to get into trouble for naming them so PM me if you like.

said it before and I'll say it everytime (for me) - NFU, local branches, friendly staff and pay up without any quibbles. They are a tad more, agreed but it is worth it for peace of mind.

Don't worry about breed etc, insurance company (well we do) will just want the details and passport number, the breed/type of horse will not affect your premium (or certainly shouldn't). There are many companies out there offering different packages so it's a case of finding one that suits your requirements best. Some companies do v good 'basic' packages inc Death, PL, Straying and others are more competitive on veterinary fees packages. There's plenty to choose from and as mentioned check with your vet for their recommendations - they're the best ones to ask about speedy settlements etc.

We all know who they won't recommend though! hee hee

SEIB, KIBS, NFU are all good

steer well clear of E&L though. they may be the cheapest but you get a crap service and if they can possibly get out of paying then they will
