I was just on the phone to NFU who my horses are insured with. I took the yearling off my policy and added tack to my policy for the 4yr old. Payments are now £30 per month lighter - 4yr old is £27 per month!! Am amazed and rather chuffed

I've just cancelled my NFU insurance.

they have changed the vet fees contract, and my horse's excess is now an exclusion.

time to look elsewhere

You may find that your tack will be covered by your house insurance but check it. Also, have a read of your tack insurance....... I bet it doesn't cover your saddle. Saddles are rarely covered on tack insurance, no matter which company you're insured with. You have to stipulate what your saddle is & pay an extra premium to have it covered.

I use NFU a lot for our insurances but have been irritated about one quirk with them. We have 7 horses here and most on them are run of the mill so we just insure for accident/death etc. Afterall with this number of horses you are always getting some vets bills but they average out less than the insurance would - we hope. However we have two valuable yearlings who basically get more valuable each week they are older. this led to two problems - valuation every so often we have to renegotiate their value - I did it when they were foals and now again as yearlings but it is a real battle. The second problem was vet insurance - NFU will not cover them for vets bills unless I insure all 7! They think I am being selective because I think they are more likely to be ill etc not that I'd be more likely to have major treatment do because they are younger and more valuable. I can understand their point but it still irritates me.
