I wonder if anyone may be able to give me some information.
I recently notified my insurance company of the potential likelihood of my needing to claim on my ponies policy after he had a vet out to see him. However, my pony has now had some further tests and I am thinking that I possibly will be ok to pay for this vet bill myself as the diagnosis was luckily not bad, and there is no treatment required.
My question is this; As I have notified my insurance company, will they still apply the 12 month rule to the affected area even if I dont actually claim?
Also, if by some bad luck, the area affected eventually needs treatment, be it the same condition or just the same area, is it likely to be covered?

Thanks in advance for your help:-)

You have to tell your insurance company anyway of anything that may effect your policy. If your pony has had a problem, whether you claim or not will be regarded as a pre-existing condition at your policy renewal. The only thing that will not be effected is you will not have gained a "claims experience" and so your renewal premium will not be affected (although not every claim will lead to a premium being loaded).

If you make a claim you will have a 12 month claims period (ie the claim will be valid for 12 months from when you first noticed the symptoms), during this time if your pony has a relapse and require further treatment it will all be classed as one claim so it may well be worth you putting in your claim, claiming back all that you can and have the knowledge that you can just call your insurers and add the treatment if it returns.
