I have just had my horse insurance renewal come through and I almost fainted!!! Monthly premiums have gone up by £15 which gives a total of £180 a year increase!!!

7 years... no claims... I was wondering if I was reading it right! Has anyone else been stung by their insurance this time round?

Also, I need a compare the meerkat site for horse insurance!! lol... time to shop around I think!

I know many people hate E&L but to be honest Ive never had any problems with them paying out (recieved payment within 2 weeks of claiming) and twice now they have kept my insurance premiums lower as I said I was looking elsewhere.Currently paying same as last year and they increased horse value too.

Ive heard Scottish Equestian are good.

wouldnt touch e and l - a girl at my yard todl me her sister worked there nto long ago and prompty left. she was told to lie to customers, had to deal with crying customers on the phone begging for help.
Im with petplan and mine goes up every year despite no claims - i dont understand it either but tbh im not too bothered - worth it for peace of mind :)

I found Petplan more competitively priced than NFU and I've had better service from PP than NFU in the past (so much so that I moved the horse with NFU to PP)

No no a month! Sorry :D :D The quote if for just a happy hacker and local shows :(

But, as peeps have said, peace of mind :)

exactly - if a jobs worth doing properly and all that - when i first bought my horse i was a novice and googled insurance cos - went for E and L - the cheapest - was about £10pcm.
Then i read and heard horror stories about them and went to petplan, whom noone seems to complain about - 5 times as much but i can sleep on a night :)

I'm currently with NFU.. not for much longer!!
Never got to test their staff on claims so can't comment if they are good in that respect... I am still shocked how they treat their long term customers and can't wait to have a chat with them!

I made a claim with NFU albeit a few years ago and they were so brilliant I have other insurance with them. BUT I did ask for a quote recently to insure a cob 15.1 12 years old on loan without public liability as I have BHS GOLD and I was staggered at the cost £340 with a saddle £600 and just vets fees. Horse worth £3K

I havent insured a horse for about 8 years and am now looking via a third party for a horse beginning with a D and am staggered at how much insurance is! Cant imagine if you have an expensive horse

Mind you always said it was like running a car cost wise to keep a horse..I will be shopping around.... Not sure if Tesco do horse insurance???

Seriously Indie, try KBIS for a quote, they should be better than that I think; I do 1 for £1500, 1 x £2000 (both those just for death) and 1 for £2000 with vet fees; the whole lot was about £460 for the year but I do have 10% off as I've been with them so long! Do you have house contents insurance as if so, your saddle can go onto that which saves a bit too, just make sure it's covered when it's out of the house?

ok my saddle is kept in but I hadnt thought about adding it to our house insurance and I think it would be covered at £600. Its vet fees that I would need covering but thanks I will try KBIS and no doubt a horse will be found for me just as it starts snowing!!Sunny nice soft ground and no horse but plenty of horse flies (Ihave to tell myself)!!
I did speak to Tesco to take car insurance and they have now their own insurance ie I believe they are not brokers. So I know they did low priced pet/dog insurance this year and may ask them if they are going to insure Equines?? Saying that I still stayed with NFU for dog!

My daughter has just changed from Pet Plan to KBIS. For three horses the monthly premium is £20 cheaper for slightly better cover ( enhanced payment for colic surgery). She has gold BHS membership for liability.

NFU got really good reviews at the beginning hence I went with them to insure my horse. I pay £75 a month for mine, but TBH I havent checked lately to see if its gone up. Sounds like it might be time to look around!

Im with aims who are underwritten by South essex insurance, ive a claim ongoing for an accident and theyve been fantastic and very prompt to pay out.
I would highly recommend them

try Shearwater - they were very prompt at paying out for my horse plus his MRI. Very friendly staff too. I really rate them (as does a couple of my equine vet friends that have had to deal with lots of different insurers)
