I have just gone to cancel Ava's insurance after loosing her just over a week ago.
I was scanning through the details to see if i can just cancel online rather than have to phone and do it and noticed that she is insured for death- both accidental and illness.

I didn't pay for her (and to be honest even if I had its Irrelevant, we would rather have her back) but wondered how does that work? We have lost her accidentally and I have paid premiums for the past year and a half but there is no proof of what happened and how could there be in the circumstances?
I don't think death was an optional thing, I just chose a decent policy for vet bill cover.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes you have nothing to lose.

Years ago one of my parrots was spooked in the aviary at night by a firework, she flew up and broke her neck. This was on a Saturday evening of a bank holiday, so not thinking I buried her and notified my vets on the Tuesday. She was insured but when I put the claim in to the insurers I was told that the only way I could claim was to dig her up and take her to my vet for a post mortem, but I wouldn't get the body back which I wasn't prepared to do. If I had taken her to the emergency vets at 2am in the morning they would have paid the claim even though she had already gone.

Good Luck

Sorry about your parrot, that’s probably how it works, I’d not thought of that.
As above I’m not really bothered, It just surprised me that we had that cover and I couldn’t think how it would work.
I suppose it depends on how clued up you are in the moment.
Insurance did run through my head in a “thank god I insured her for vets fees” way before I realised it was too late anyway.

I just set up the new insurance for my three and the lady explained that they pay out the value of the cat (in my case the donation fee). When I cancelled Annie's, I did it through their App and it didn't mention the death payout, so either it wasn't a thing when her policy was set up or it didn't come into play as she died at home of natural causes.
