Have received two insurance quotes, one from Julie Andrews and one from Petplan. Both cover almost identical things and Julie Andrews is £1.31 a month cheaper (wow!

). Any preferences to which is best?

Pet Plan is a direct insurer (as well as through some brokers), Julie Andrews is a broker so can search the market - see if that's the best quote you can get. Petplan are unlikely to budge premium wise, a broker has more room to manouveure (sp??)

have you tried, south essex (seib) or shearwater? shearwater let you choose the amount of vet fees (£1000 - £5000 i think) plus you can get cover for hospitalisation of your horse too! i use seib at mo so my young son is covered but once he's 5 il be moving to shearwater!

sorry not exactly an answer to your question but i had a horse with shivers and wanted the best cover possible so spent days searching through every insurance company i could find for best quotes/cover (he was insured to highest of everything at a decent price with shearwater)!

My pony is 27, so Shearwater won't insure her. They said they only start policies on under 25's.
I think I did have a quick look at SEIB, but it was quite late last night online and it said I had to telephone for the veteran policies.
So I can only get accidental injury only, and with her age, surgery would probably be out of the question for any injury, so I didn't think I'd need more than about £1500 in vets fees.

Petplan is very expensive so I can only imagine Julie Andrews is too? I have always used AMTrust equine whom offer fantastic policy cover and pay up really quickly without quibble, you can get an on line quote from them and take it out over the internet if your happy with the quote, I would give them ago if I were you, I now have most of my liveries insured with them as the prices are soooo good. www.amtrustequine.co.uk

Well Ihave used Julie Andrews services for the last 4 of mine and she has given us brilliant value for money quotes with good insurers. Had the dogs with petplan and had a nightmare getting them to pay on a spinal injury - so never had the horses with them. Used to go direct but found that a broker was brilliant when a claim had to be made as they did the negotiation and took the emotion out of it........

Julie Andrews has always been reliable and I have found her to be most competitive.

I have to ring AMTrust Equine, as they won't give veteran quotes online, but Julie Andrews is only £89.51 a year and Petplan is only £106.45, so not expensive. Granted, as I said above, I have an oldie and can't get much vet's fees cover and am only insurering her for the minimum allowed, as am not looking for a payout if anything happens, just vet's fees covered really. Oh, and public liability of course.
Think I might just go with Julie Andrews, as I think our dog is with Petplan and they tooked months to payout for an op.
