I've just had my renewal through for Mason's insurance and it's an increase of nearly 30% on last year (was £350, now nearly £450) and I haven't even made a claim!
I'm with Petplan Equine, only cover for vets fees (£5k) loss of animal (£2500) and tack (£1k) I have third party liability through the BHS gold membership.

Has anyone else experienced this huge hike in insurance fees?

Also, does anyone know if I take a new policy with a different insurer, will the 14 day exclusion for illness still apply, as he's been insured up until then with another company?
thanks

illness exclusion will apply if moving to a new company I'm afraid. My car insurance keeps going up too, yet haven't made a claim in about 8 years!!! I'm dreading my renewal for my mare as we have claimed on her insurance!!!!!

Hi, i have noticed this to. My in insurance for one of my horses was nearly £72 a month!I have 2 horses and there combined insurance has gone up £25 a month. (NFU) i rang them to question it and they say it is due to rates. Im now paying alomost £100 a month for one horse (Not worth millions) and a retired gelding!

I've managed to get my premium down by switching companies after the company I was with hiked up my renewal premium.

Shop around, it really does pay off...literally!

Yup, mine too... up 25% on last year, even without any claims ! Wish I could give myself a payrise like that !!

Im moving from NFU to Carriagehouse... saving £20 a month for the same level of cover.

can i ask who you have changed to?Did your old comany charge you to cancel your existing policy?im not sure who to go with that is good other than nfu

NFU have just wacked mine up over £150. What with that and everything else increasing, im just not sure how much more I can obsorb. Times are getting very difficult.

WTF!!! I currently pay £60 for all 3 of mine!!! Granted their values aren't the highest but covered for 5K vets etc each! I've found Equestrian world insurance services to be very competitive, and they've paid out on vets fees, just waiting come may to see what they say about renewal for my mare!!!

I had 2 horses insured with NFU (£1250 sports horse £3500 ISH) and £2500 trailer, 2 saddles and a load of tack and was only paying £70/month....

Just taken one of the horses off (the cheaper one), although sold her a few months ago (claim was going through so not cancelled immediately) so now paying a very very low amount for the next 6 months as they owe me money, will have to see come my renewal in Sept what it will be.

My insurance with Petplan went up when it renewed in November, but the change was only about 6% so really nothing considering everything is getting more expensive.

One of my horses renewal came through this week (SEIB)- although it hasn't gone up, I was getting a little bit sick of paying £50 a month just to cover him for vets fees!, I didn't want to switch companies, so I phoned them and asked them what they could do to get the premium down, and they got the premium down to £31 a month, just by changing (upping) the excess that I would pay. I've done the same with my other horse too, so I've got them both covered for £59 a month.

Kay, NFU put mine up by 50%. I couldn't believe it, they already put my premium up after I had made that claim.
Went with Petplan in the end for £35 month.
