Insurance question for happy hackers.

My happy hack is £28 a month. But I did include a hefty 3rd party cus she had a tendoncy to go off on one and knowing my luck she would kick the hell out of a Ferrari lol

Only about 20 a month but this is a 4 year old! Depends on what you want covered, I didn't bother with tack etc but would be covered for vets bills and all the important things. Check out petplan for a quote :-)

Wow, you all seem to pay alot for hacking. I pay £38 with KBIS to do showjumping, intermediate eventing, team chasing and hunting! Its the platinum cover that pays £5000 of vet fees, £350 excess but covered for 15 months from onset of injury. They were brilliant paying out for my mare too x

i insure with KBIS (who have just paid out no quibbles for sinus problems - would def recommend them) and basic level includes everything up to low level comp - so would be same for hacker as it would for my mare

Yeah, this is why I thought it might be a bit cheaper for a horse only used for hacking and the odd fun ride.

If you only want the basic third party insurance and some personal accident for yourself, join the BHS as a gold member and get that cover free with the membership which is about £58/pa ??
My 24 yo gelding is also insured with NFU just for vets fees (accident only) and loss of horse and I pay about £12 per month for that.
Unless they have changed their policy, I was able to pick and choose which elements I wanted to insure for, being as I had some cover on the BHS membership.
Watch out for if tack is covered if left at the yard, even if it is locked and/or alarmed some wont insure if there are multiple horses at the yard. NFU didn't used to have that exclusion and even insured rugs.
Also look out for the age which each insurance company deems as veteran or aged, I think NFU changed mine when my gelding got to 16 or 17 years old.

Some companies bundle lots of activities together. I am insured with NFU and their policies have 2 levels but even level 1 has quite alot of activities which would not necessarily be relevant if you are just hacking but is great if you do intend to do a little bit of everything.

Some ( i think petplan is one) let you choose exactly which activities you want so that can work out cheaper for someone that is just hacking.
