I am posting on behalf of a friend. My friends's 3 year old Connemara mare got kicked in the field by another mare and is now lame as a result of it. My friends horse is not insured but the mare who kicked her is. Could you claim on her insurance for third party at all? My friends horse needs x rays and possibly nerve blocks which will be quite expensive. She has only bought the Connemara a month ago and had not got round to insuring her.

It's a bit of a tricky situation. Any help will be welcome :)

You could always try it if the other mare's owner hasn't offered any financial help themselves and your friend is facing a large vet bill. However, this is IF you know for definite it's a particular horse that's done the damage otherwise the other person's insurance could just dispute it. It is certainly something that you can technically claim for under a policy BUT the insurers could just argue that's what horses do and it's a risk you take putting them in fields together.
