Current insurer wont let me reduce value of horse - well they will, but will halve the vets fees limit and the only reason I bother insuring is for vets fees.
Do mine through Equia. It's one lady who runs it and they've just settled a claim for me no problem. Gave much better quotes than SEIB etc to. www.equiauk.co.uk
I'm with KBIS - they let me insure my horse for a nominal value of £500 with full vets fees cover - as she is on permanent loan from a charity she effectively has no value insurance wise. They were very helpful
Another vote for Amtrust. They were brilliant when i had to claim. Very quick to pay and no quibbling about anything. Really nice people to deal with. Highly recommend!!
They're very good to talk to , fair with exclusions and will ammend with a note from your vet. They will still pay vet directly if you wish and are good and quick at settling claim. Payout for LOU sensibly and will insure your new horse even after your old horse has cost them a fortune unlike another one thats mentioned a lot in this post.
Hmmm NFU wont insure her! I told them about her previous issues (foot inbalance and tendon sehath synovitis), and probably being far too honest said that I had turned her out to grass - is she still lame? Well I expect she probably is slightly....so on that basis they wont cover her. Even though she would have had exclusions for her 'previous' issues anyway...
I feel really upset about this. I have always insured for years with no problems until last year when SEIB (and Allianz who they were underwritten by) messed me around and I had to resolve the issue through the financial ombudsman. They sorted it all in my favour (although was still left hugely out of pocket) on the basis I had been completely honest with the insurer and I had been treated unfairly.
Now I'm left with a horse that all I want to do is insure for minimal value just to have vets fees cover - all she does is live out at grass. I'm not going to try and claim for any pre-exsisting conditions, why on earth would I, its more there in case of colic etc. I actually think I may stop insuring her all together as its all such a nightmare - most companies are underwritten by Allianz, NFU wont insure her (I probably should have said she was sound, but thats me completely honest, shoot myself in the foot why dont I!?). The crazy thing is I said if she was scrutinized by a vet she is probably still 1/10th lame on a circle - how many horses out there are probably that unsound yet still insured by them because no one has noticed!!!
Have to say NFU were funny with Goddy. I had brought him and owned him for 18mnths without him being insured, but he had never had the vet out to him at all. However, they wouldnt insure him without a recent 5* vetting even though I was only insuring for 2k?!! So I went with KBIS who were lovely and very friendly.
However, with my mare, I had her 5 stage vetted, insured her with NFU for 2k (most I will ever insure for) and they didnt even ask for the vetting!
ARGH! However, they were the cheapest... try KBIS though
KBIS are underwritten by Allianz.....thats the whole problem, I am seriously limited as they dominate the insurance market!! All because I decided to stick up for myself and make a complaint (and rightly so according to the financial ombudsman!!)!
Most people who see my mare ask me how is she lame? She looks sound - its soft tissue damage in the feet so only really noticable on certain surfaces on a circle (or was, she may be fine now but I need to get her re-assessed in the spring). Should have kept my trap shut.
I am actually starting to think E&L may be my only option, but to be fair they cant be any worse than SEIB were to me - who accepted THREE claims, said all fine and then turned round at a much later date and refused to pay out based on reasons they never actually provided me or the ombudsman (because there weren't any ultimately!) - at least I would know where I stood with E&L!!!
ETS - I could of course leave her insured with current company, but I dont see her as worth what she is insured for -she lives in a field and does nothing, I don't really want to pay all that money for nothing. One of my other horses is also insured with them for a lot less value than she is, but he still has full £5k vets fees so not sure what they were going on about!!!
i use scottish equestrain something or other( ill remember soon -promise!) and they are great i have my gelding highland x insureed for vets fees all apart from one leg, whic he has had problems with. i also have mare insured and have reduced it and changed it a few times and they have been fine with that.
