My horses policy is up for renewal and has, as everything gone up quite a lot.

I only insure for vets fees and value the horse minimally to keep premiums down (I’m not bothered about a pay out if I loose him, I’ll suck that up!)

I’ve actually used Emporium (E &L) for my previous horses and Ive been happy with them and made several claims over the years. The thing that’s put me off is the new 17.5% of the claim on top of the excess thing, that’s potentially a lot of money.

So I want vets fees of £4/5,000 with a fixed excess of up to £200 ish.
Don’t really need tack or third party as I already have that separately for all my horses with WHW cover.

Current policy is with SEIB

I changed from NFU which for two was around £130 a month, fully comp although every leg on the Connie was excluded to Harry Hall which is injury only at £66 a quarter (I think) Both mine are getting older, don’t do much and it seemed a lot of money so I took the view if either of them needed colic surgery they would be PTS.

Yeah that’s my theory with my two retirees and old ponies, my OH adores the Shetland so I figure that’s as good as an insurance policy ? they all have accidental injury cover but I want proper back up for my younger riding horse. (But don’t want to bankrupt myself!!)

Im with E & L and have only ever claimed once when he had colic and was in horspital. They didnt exclude it so I am loyal and stayed with them, my payments are about 66 a month now which has went up from 40 in two years
Yes I like them to be fair, it’s just the huge access now that’s put me off.

I was with NFU until Old Horse aged out of any cover at all. Reasonable policy and cost. No claims made.
Now he's 90% retired, due to my chronic illness rather than any health/soundness on his part. We're on a private yard. YO has it fully insured with NFU.
If Old Horse colics or has any chronic physical difficulties which I can't fund effectively, I will have him pts.
He owes me nothing. I owe him everything.
