We're about to be joined by two little black lab sisters. We didn't have our GSD insured as she had problems from a very young age so we fostered her from Dog's Trust and they kindly picked up the £000s of bills over the years. Unfortunately we never got around to getting our Lab insured and sod's law last year two ops saw us hit with £8500 bills so these two newbies will defo be insured.

Any recommendations???

I'm with marks & spencers mainly because my dog is 10 and I didn't ever get around to getting him insured when he was younger and then when I wanted to last year hardly anyone would touch him.

Petplan are meant to be good as well.

Would love to see some pictures when the little labs arrive.

Wow I didn't think anyone would touch a dog over 9, I'm impressed. Our little lab who is the most expensive little lab ever now is 10 but not sure even M&S would touch her when we know she has another couple of discs that are weak further down her spine but I think I'll get the girlies insured with them just to support a company that covers older dogs !

I will put some photos of my little darlings on the site as soon as they arrive for sure... proud parents and all that !!

I used to have my old dog insured with Tesco. Have to say they were very good and paid up without a problem when I had to make several claims when she had cancer. I used to be with Dog Breeders Insurance, but when they were taken over by petplan they put restrictions on GSDs which I wasn't happen about.

You could try Direct Line who give a reduction for the 2nd dog. I have a lab who needed a couple of ops & they never quibbled about it & paid out promptly.
Argos also do reasonable priced insurance but you have to check which vet cover you want.

Sainsburys, they use Petplan. My parents have been with Sainsburys for 11 years I think for both dogs and they've always paid out, no problems. They've been paying out for thyroid medication for our older dog for 7 years.

sorry to hi jack your post but has anyone any experience of
'animal friends' insurance company
live cover quote has come out less than half of pet plan insurance

I have my dog and cats all on one policy with Direct Line - they paid out for my cat without any hassle at all. I think the policy for the three of them (one of which is an un-neutered male lab) is abt £11 per month.
