I've just had my renewal through from Help u Cover and I'm in total shock!

It's gone from £48 a month to £77.87 a month despite no claims in the last year

Ok my boy is getting a bit older now, he will be 8 later in the year, and he's a rottweiler so gets a big dog ( or something ) loading but I think it's incredible. Does anyone else agree?

To make matters worse I have 2 rotties so the next renewal will no doubt come through the same! I've already cancelled the horse insurance this year as NFU were seriously taking the mick and it looks like the dogs' will be the next direct debits cancelled.

Oh dear dizzydancer that's steep! Mind you with 2 boys to insure mine will be about £150 a month and if I add what the horse would have been I would be short of just over £300 a month.

It's not only the monthly cost that shocks me but the hike of £20 a month although there's been no claims.

I'm sure the insurance companies don't really want my business

Blimey, that is steep. I have Evie insured as an add on to my NFU household insurance, costs me £15 a month. Its only fairly basic vets fees but better than nothing. I had a call from Petplan over the weekend trying to sell me insurance for Freya (you get a month free with microchip and they were following up). Quoted me £30 per month for lifetime cover per condition, which I didn't think was too bad, but going to get some more quotes.
I think you might find you have trouble insuring your rottie elsewhere as he is 8 which some insurance seem to think is ancient for large breeds. That is why the existing companies get away with charging silly amounts in my view.

Blimey.

R's has just gone up from £22 a month to £38 but to be fair they'd paid out £1600 in treatment for just one year. D's is still £22 for lifetime cover for now. I switched from Direct Line whose level of cover and price was fine but who took 8 weeks to pay out per claim to Animal Friends who had a much better choice of cover levels and who have paid out promptly each time.

I suppose that Rotts would be considered as high risk, as they age, but even so, Bloody Nora!!

Here's a suggestion for all those who have dogs which are at risk, why not be your own insurance, open up a deposit account, put away your £40+ per month, and by the time that the dog's 10, and assuming that you've made no claims, then you should have, with interest, the thick end of £5k!!

The only downside would be that if you needed to spend £5k when the dog was 2 yo, you'd have a problem, except that by telling the vet that the dog wasn't insured, that would probably halve the estimate! ;)

Alec.

Who are you with Vizzy, might give them a call, though no doubt they will think of a number and double it if I say the word GSD.
Alec, I know quite a few people who put money away each month, and am seriously considering doing it with the dogs. My vet actually suggested it with the ponies, as NFU premium had gone stupid, so that is what I am doing, although as they are both getting on I wouldn't be getting into major expense with them now anyway.

its their silver package not the lifetime cover etc but the cover is EXACTLY the same as petplans equivilant and massively cheaper. I went in depth into researching everyone I quoted from and read all policy wording etc.

Hmm, just got an online quote for Evie, said she was spayed as she soon will be so in theory should make insurance cheaper, £13.30 a month. Still reasonable but that was for the fairly basic silver cover, only £2500 vets fees, told you these insurance companies were breedist.:(

Yep put chip number in. Just did Freya as well, £11 so obviously they think poor Evie is getting a bit long in the tooth at just 4 (it was her birthday yesterday).:)
