OK - so that's six hours of my life spent in tears and shaking on the end of the phone or waiting for call backs.

The upshot is that I am now covered. NFU agreed that the policy on my mare was not refused or cancelled because there had been a "failure to meet criteria" - the policy is written "subject to a pass vetting certificate". Although she had one of those, they felt that it WASN'T a pass and treated the policy as if it had been a failure. RAC underwriters have accepted this after numerous phone calls back and forth between me, them and NFU.

HOWEVER, you should all be aware that if you have been refused insurance or had it cancelled you MUST declare it, even if it's pet insurance and you are trying to insure a house. The time period which they want to know about varies from company to company so you need to check that when asked. What I would add is if there is any doubt about exactly what has happened then check with the "refusing" company first. Had my big mare's insurance actually been cancelled then I would be still looking round for someone to insure at a sensible price - on ALL the insurance policies I currently hold.

Thanks to those who have commented and those who PM'd me, your support has been very welcome.

I just hope that this helps someone else because if you don't declare a refusal or withdrawal your insurance is not valid and you could possibly be done for insurance fraud. Not many people seem to know this and it's not a good place to be.

Thank you for the information - I never thought that say refusal on horse would invalidate house insurance. This is never clear on the forms, I had always thought it meant refused on insurance for that particular area ( ie house).

So to be clear, if tomorrow I wanted to insure my horse and was refused for whatever reason - would I have to automatically contact house/car/life insurers?
